Scouting The 2015 Draft: Combo Mock 2.0

We are moving through this offseason at the speed of light. Now that the combine is over, Drew (@Drewfromjersey) and I put together our second mock draft for you guys to rip apart. Again, we gave back our 4th rounder for this mock. We really don't see Harvin being here much longer.

Round 1

Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

6'1" - 211 LBS - 4.42 40

Mock 1.0 - Dante Fowler Jr., OLB, Florida

In our first mock, we took a rising edge rusher in Fowler. That was met with a little opposition, but now it looks like he will probably be taken before we even pick now. We also see White being gone as well. Since we aren't doing trades, we are picking Cooper. We would be ok if we go into the season with Decker, a solid vet, Cooper and Kerley, we would be very happy. Amari has the speed to be a threat deep, but he is very dangerous when it comes to rout running.

Round 2

Lorenzo Mauldin, Edge, Louisville

6'4" - 259 LBS - 4.85 40

Mock 1.0 - Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina

It's been a very long time since we have had a dominant edge rusher. Luckily there is an abundance of edge rushing talent in this year's draft. We also have a severe deficiency at the LBer position. Davis is the only guy we have signed that can start tomorrow at a LBer position. Bowles is a guy that runs a defense that is always changing. We need guys that are scheme diverse. Mauldin can rush the passer from the dirt or standing up. He doesn't have the burst that a Fowler or Ray have, but he has the strength and hand talent to make it seem effortless, getting to the ball carrier.

Round 3

Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise St.

6'0" - 221 LBS - 4.57 40

Mock 1.0 - Daryl Williams, OT, Oklahoma

We could end up bringing in a guy like CJ Spiller in free agency, which would probably push this RB selection back a round or two. Right now, we see Ajayi as a guy we should jump on. He is big, strong, quick and can be a 3 down back. He does everything pretty good, and may go sooner than the 3rd, but for now, we see his value being around the early 3rd. With Ivory probably on the last legs of his career, we will need a replacement soon. Even if we do pick up someone like Spiller, we need a strong back to replace Ivory eventually.

Round 4

Stephone Anthony, ILBer, Clemson

6'3" - 243 LBS - 4.56 40

Mock 1.0 - Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (Ohio)

Like I said earlier, we are running dangerously low on LBers. David Harris is going to be a free agent soon, and he is getting attention from a few other teams. Even if we can't bring him back, we will need someone that is competent enough to start. They can be a cheaper stop gap guy that can do a decent job, while a younger guy splits time with him and learns on the job. this can be Stephone Anthony. Anthony has a lot of talent, and can be a difference maker in time. With some wise guidance, he can fix his flaws, and be a great LBer for us in the middle. I see him improving little by little, much like Demario Davis.

Round 5

Adrian Amos, FS, Penn State

6'0" - 218 LBS - 4.56 40

Mock 1.0 - Jake Ryan, ILB/OLB, Michigan

It isn't so clear as to how we will be filling a lot of our needs, but one thing is for sure. We will be fixing our secondary with free agency. Bowles does not want to go into the season with unknowns at very important positions. The CBs are probably where the big money is going, but FS is something that should not be ignored. I doubt it will. I can see the ILBer situation replicating itself here. We can bring in a cheaper stop gap guy that will allow Pryor to play to his strengths, and also give a young guy time to grow. Amos is a guy that is very intriguing. He is very reliable in coverage, and can be a big threat with his range. Round 5 may be way to low with the combine he ran, but until the dust has settled, he is probably still in the 4th or 5th round range.

Brandon Bridge, QB, South Alabama

6'4" - 229 LBS - 4.72 40

Mock 1.0 - Adrian Amos, FS, Penn State

In the 7th I would like to mock us a lump of clay with a lot of potential. Bridge has an NFL arm, and the prototypical size you look for. Everything else with his game is a complete mess, but there is a lot to like. When he is on, he is very accurate, and can make huge plays with his feet. Let's give him some NFL coaching, and see if anything comes of it.
