New York Jets Defense, Surviving Without David Harris

It was a tough beak to lose David Harris so early yesterday, only days after being described as the glue that holds this defense together.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The defense fought, fought, then fought some more. It wasn't the cleanest game, but they held the Cowboys to a single touchdown and 16 points in total. We were playing a 3rd string QB, but at the same time he has more to him than Matt Cassell. The Cowboys also have one of the finest offensive lines in the game, and that showed with the Jets having to use extra blitzers to generate pressure.

I thought everyone played admirably, but there was some really poor fundamentals out there. It reminded me of the scene in Remember the Titans when Campbell and Bertier get in each others faces and Bertier says "Campbell, you're playing selfish show-off football, hold your man down". Someone could have said that to Sheldon Richardson last night. He made a flashy play knocking a blocker on his backside....but he failed to actually fulfill his assignment with outside containment, McFadden easily scampered for a first down as a result.

At the end of the day, we won the ball-game and that's all that matters. We'll need to play better on defense next week to hold down Brady, Gronk, Amendola and maybe Edelman if he returns.

In total the Jets played 57 snaps on the defensive side of the football and held Dallas to 2-11 on 3rd down for a measly 18% conversion rate.

Marcus Gilchrist registered his 3rd interception on the season, that's a career single season record. Revis's interception gives him 4 on the season and he leads the team with 7 takeaways (4 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries). Marcus Williams came back in and recorded his 6th interception on the season.
