Brandon Marshall: Jets "want to be known as the best team in New York"

I don't personally see it as a rivalry, but I do see it as a very important game to win.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

This weekend the New York Jets will take on the New York Giants with a lot of play-off implications on the line. The 6-5 jets are in the middle of a heated race for the two AFC Wild Card places and the 5-6 Giants are still in the hunt for the NFC East crown. I care more about the season implications, than the paper title of being the best team in town.

Brandon Marshall speaking on Sirius XM's Mad Dog show had this to say about the upcoming game.

"Because it's two teams in the same city, it's definitely a rivalry," the New York Jets wide receiver said Tuesday on Sirius XM's Mad Dog Radio Show. "We definitely want to be known as the best team in New York, and we have to go out there and fight for that this weekend."

The Jets can easily be the best team in New York in 2015 if they win on Sunday, but to be the best team in New York full stop, you have to win titles. The Jets obviously have the one Super Bowl win compared to the 4 Super Bowl titles the Giants own. Especially considering the Giants have two championships in the last 10 years.

Unfortunately for the Jets, they haven't fared well against the Giants in regular season play. The Jets are 4-8 against the Giants all-time and currently own a 5 game losing streak against them. The last Jets victory came in 1993 with a 10-6 victory on Halloween. The winning touchdown being a 2 yard rush by Brad Baxter.

It would be nice to be known as the best team in New York, at least for a season. However the need for victory is more about the playoff implications.
