I think it would fair to say today's game was a grind. This was not a pretty effort. There were plenty of miscues and some questionable coaching decisions. In the end, the Jets triumphed 28-23 and finished the first half of the 2015 season with a 5-3 record.
The defense deserves a lot of credit for holding down Jacksonville for long stretches when the offense was struggling to function. Ryan Quigley also deserves a lot of credit for nailing four extra points and handling kickoffs decently in place of Nick Folk. Brandon Marshall also came up with three key plays late in the fourth quarter, an insurance touchdown, an onside kick recovery, and a fumble recovery.
I am sure there will be plenty of complaints about the performance in this game, and some of it will be justified. The bottom line, though, is the Jets got a win and ended their losing streak. There are only sixteen games in each season. You have to figure out how to win sometimes when you don't play your best. Sure, Jacksonville helped the Jets along the way, but I have seen plenty of games through the years when the Jets could not win even though the other team was trying to gift them the game.
This team is 5-3 through its first eight games. If the team goes 5-3 in the next eight, it will have an excellent chance to make the Playoffs.
Celebrate below. The official recap will be up this evening.
