Rex Ryan loves his old players, we know that. That's why many of us thought that the Bills would put a claim in on Coples, and apparently, that's exactly what happened.
According to ESPN insider Field Yates, only two teams put a claim in on Coples, the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. Miami were awarded the services of Coples due to them having a higher waiver priority.

So the GM who drafted him and the coach who played him tried to select him.
I'm sure that Coples is breathing a sigh of relief tonight. Despite former players loving the style of Rex, it was Ryan who tried to fit a square peg into a round hole. Moving Coples from a defensive lineman to an outside linebacker with the new York Jets. He was also the coach who had Coples lined up near the sideline jamming receivers.
It's going to be interesting to see how he fits in Miami, but I'm sure he fits there a lot better than he would have done in Buffalo.
