Bowles "Went Off" on Team Following Houston Loss

New, comments

An interesting note from ESPN writer Rich Cimini tonight.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets have lost 4 of their last 5 games...did you know that? Of course you did, it's all we can talk about at the minute.

Todd Bowles is known for his calm persona, in front of the press he's very straight faced, very serious and very "corporate" for want of a better term. He'll give you all the answers you would expect, he's the anti Rex Ryan. That's to the media. Don't make the mistake of thinking he has no fire or desire:

"Coach Todd, after the game, went off on us and told us, 'Losing is not acceptable,'" Defensive end Mo Wilkerson

The Jets like to keep everything like this in house, what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. Bowles said he'd address the loss when he got to the locker room, and it sounds as though he did just that.

Bowles admitted he was upset, but he saved his message for the team, like he should.

"I'm extremely upset, but I'm not going to take it out here," he said after the game. "We'll discuss that in-house when I get back in the locker room and we get in the meeting."

I'm not one of those people who feel as though the only way to manage is to rant and rave. However when the team is down and struggling and failing to execute, sometimes you have to lay into them, you have to send a message that this is not acceptable and not going to be tolerated. Bowles has stated many times this year that the Jets have suffered from misses assignments, there is so long this can continue before you have to lose your temper.

I'm pleased to see Bowles have some fire in him.
