The New York Jets signed Randy Bullock last week after it was revealed that Jets kicker Nick Folk would miss the rest of the season with an injury. Several players came in, but Bullock was the man chosen by Jets GM Mike Maccagnan. The two had previously worked together in Houston.
It was all done very quickly, so it makes sense that the Jets are doing their due dilligence this week to ensure we made the right choice. Bullock got off to a strong start against Buffalo, kicking his one field goal and forcing a touchback on 75% of his kickoffs. There are no indications at the moment that the Jets are going to make a change.
The Jets worked out the following kickers:
Corey Acosta
24 year old kicker cut by the San Francisco 49'ers. Undrafted out of Southern Mississippi this year. He's got a good strong leg, and made all four of his kicks in the pre-season.
Michael Barnard
Bobby April was a big fan of Barnard when he tried our for the Eagles. Unfortunately for him, he's been unable to stick on a roster. April said "Michael was given a huge test in Eagles camp and passed it with flying colors. He showed tremendous leg strength and accuracy and that he is more than ready to kick in the NFL right now."
Tommy Frevert
Known for his big leg, but not his accuracy. He's spent the majority of his time playing in the AFL or indoor football leagues.
Andrew Furney
Obviously we know him well. He was with us in the pre-season but cut when we decided to sign Austin Hill. Furney has now been with us for two summers in a row, but has never done enough to solidify a place, despite kicking a 50+ yard game winning field goal in the pre-season last year.
Zach Hocker
Hocker was a 7th round selection in 2014, and made 6 starts for the Saints this year. After connecting on only 9-13 field goals and missing an extra point, he was cut by New Orleans.
Marvin Kloss
He spent some time in Cleveland after going undrafted this year. He went 13-17 in his final year with the South Florida Bulls.
Giorgio Tavecchio
He has spent some time with San Francisco, Green Bay, Oakland and Detroit, but currently finds himself without a kicking job. He made a couple of long pre-season field goals but that wasn't enough to convince the Raiders it was time to move on from Janikowski
