The Jets fell to 4-3 today with a 34-20 loss to the Raiders in Oakland.
This one is on the defense. Derek Carr threw for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Raiders scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and never looked back.
Ryan Fitzpatrick left the game injured on the first series with an apparent hand injury, only returning for a brief stretch in the fourth quarter when Geno Smith was knocked out of the game. This game was not about the quarterbacks, though. Geno actually played very well for a long stretch in the second half. Whether it is Fitzpatrick or Smith, the Jets are not going to win games when the defense puts the offense multiple scores down. They do not have the big play passing game for that.
It was disappointing to see this effort coming off the loss in New England. Even though the Pats did put up points and won the game, the Jets gave the New England offense some problems. Today in Oakland, it looked easy for Carr. He might be emerging as the league's next star quarterback. Calvin Pryor might have been out, but there is no way the defense should be dominated like that.
