Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane remembering one of the most memorable games in professional football history pitting the Jets against the Raiders,. the Heidi Game. On November 17, 1968, The Jets were beating the Oakland Raiders 32-29 late in the fourth quarter. The game ended with the Raiders winning 43-32 after two touchdowns in the final minute. It is remembered because NBC cut away from the game to show the movie Heidi before Oakland scored those two touchdowns..This game changed television forever, and it is the reason we will never have to miss a dramatic ending ever again.
Coming into this week, the Jets are 4-2 and the Oakland Raiders are 3-3, with both teams sitting second in their division. The Jets are coming of the tough loss against their rival, the New England Patriots, and the Raiders are coming of a big win in their division against the San Diego Chargers.
Although the Jets don’t have any former Raiders, the Raiders have two players who are former Jets. The first player is Austin Howard, the starting right tackle for Oakland. He played for the Jets from 2011 to 2013, and started at right tackle in 2012 and 2013.
The second player is wide receiver Walter Powell. He played 4 games for the Jets during last season. His minimal impact came on special teams, returning kickoffs (8 for 233 yds) and punts (12 for 48 yds). He was cut by the Jets after the preseason this year.
The Raiders have another familiar foe in tight end, Lee Smith. He was with Buffalo for 4 years before coming to the Raiders. His role on the offense is more about blocking than receiving.
