Report: Jets Will Hire Jimmie Johnson As TE's Coach

The coaching staff is almost complete as a report surfaces suggesting we will hire Jimmie Johnson.

We're talking Jimmie Johnson the football coach rather than Jimmie Johnson the Nascar driver.

According to Adam Caplan, Johnson has told colleagues he will become TE's coach with the Jets:

This is a really strong hire if and when it becomes official. Johnson was a tight end in the NFL for 10 years and although he was never a star, or much of a receiving threat, he was highly thought of. He started his coaching career as a running backs coach at South Carolina State before moving to Shaw, Texas Southern and eventually the Minnesota Vikings.

Under his stewardship as tight ends coach, Kyle Rudolph earned a pro-bowl place in 2012 with 9 receiving touchdowns. In 2008 Visanthe Shiancoe had 596 yards and 7 touchdowns then followed that up in 2009 with a 566 yard, 11 touchdown season. Jimmie Johnson knows how to coach up tight ends in the red zone thats for sure.

I'd be very happy with this hire, it would certainly add a bit of experience to the positional coaching position.
