We reported that the Jets were close to hiring Kevin Patullo as their QB coach and the team made it official this evening. Along with the hirings of Steve Marshall as the offensive line coach and Marcell Shipp as the running back coach.
Kevin Patullo has spent most of his early career as a wide receivers coach. However he has worked under Chan Gailey and I'm sure out new offensive coordinator will be heavily involved in the quarterback development. It's a natural progression for Patullo and we're giving him a chance to move up the coaching ladder.
We talked about Steve Marshall over the weekend, it's hard to really get a grip on his effect in Green Bay, considering he was an assistant there this past season. However Lacy continues to impress and I was quietly very impressed with the line play of the Packers this year.
We haven't spoken a great deal about Marcel Shipp. He was a running back between 2001 and 2008 with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. After he finished his career he participated in the NFL's minority coaching fellowship program, where he decided he wanted to pursue coaching.
Over the past year he coached running backs at the university of Massachusetts, the college team he played for.
