The Jets made quite a splash Tuesday night hiring Houston Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan as general manager and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and head coach.
Are you on board with these hires?
I am. It's difficult to evaluate general manager prospects because it's impossible to tell which moves they were behind with their current team. With that said, Maccagnan seems to have a pretty good reputation as a talent evaluator.
As far as Bowles goes, he seems like a very innovative and adaptable guy. He's earned a lot of respect from both his players and opponents. He's climbed the ladder from position coach to coordinator and now to head coach. He also had a short stint as an interim head coach. He's been successful. The job he did in Arizona this season keeping the Cardinals a top ten scoring defense despite losing contributor after contributor was pretty remarkable.
We never know how first timers at a given job will pan out. The responsibilities are new, and even the guys who look great on paper sometimes fail. I will say this. It has been years since I have been this excited about the future for the Jets.
I approve of these hires. Do you?
