The first half of the first game of the 2014 NFL season was not the cleanest in New York Jets history. There were penalties galore. Greg Salas dropped a touchdown pass. Geno Smith had a pair of fairly ugly turnovers.
The good is that the Jets lead 10-7 heading into the locker room. If the offense has shown the same tendency for killer mistakes as in years past, it has also looked like a unit capable of moving the football and sustaining drives. The Jets have 231 yards of offense at the break. The defense has also done the job. Oakland's only points came as a result of a Geno interception giving the Raiders a short field. If the Jets clean things up, this one should be comfortable. If they don't, it will be a nailbiter.
