This does not come as much of a surprise. The quarterback battle in camp indicates two truths.
Michael Vick cannot win the starting quarterback job.
Geno Smith can lose the starting quarterback job.
The Jets clearly want Geno to be the starter this year, but he has to show in preseason the competence that far too frequently eluded him as a rookie. The competition seems slanted in his direction, but the Jets have hedged their bets by giving Vick work with the first team.
It will be interesting to see whether the Jets give Vick a series or two with the first team after Geno's night is concluded against the Colts.
