Jets Depth: Defensive Tackle

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Before training camp we are looking at relevant questions about the Jets' depth. We turn now to the defensive line.

Is there a third defensive tackle that not only plays in a rotation but could play the whole game if need be?

We have to amend this question a bit since defensive ends in the Jets' system function like tackles in other systems. In any event, this answer seems like an overwhelming yes. Defensive line is the deepest group the Jets have. Rex Ryan and Karl Dunbar have done a superb job developing young talent. The Jets have an excellent backup nose tackle in Kenrick Ellis. They also have a good backup at end in Leger Douzable. They could even move Quinton Coples back to end should the need present itself.

There are spots where the team has legitimate concerns about depth. Defensive line is not one of them. The Jets could sustain an injury and still expect quality play from the unit.
