A few weeks ago, we covered a story in which Geno Smith was apparently boldly proclaiming the New York Jets could get to the Super Bowl. That story is apparently false.
About my 7/6 @GenoSmith7 "why not us?" tweet: Geno was reading copy for an NFL marketing spot. It was inadvertently transcribed as his quote

This is the tweet from what was falsely thought to be a @GenoSmith7 interview: https://t.co/nM9VOuzYtx. Signals got crossed. Not his words.

Here is the original quote:
At his camp, #Jets QB @GenoSmith7 told @nflnetwork "I feel good about our team making a Super Bowl run. … You know, why not us?"

So, someone from NFL Network gave him something to say and then a reporter for NFL Network misquoted him for saying it. Take this for what you will. Some will undoubtedly turn this into, "What, does Smith not actually believe we can make it to the Super Bowl? What a jerk!" The truth is, it really doesn't make a difference. Multiple teammates have said he's taken a firm leadership grasp on the offense. That's all that matters at this point.
