ESPN's John Clayton raises an interesting possibility.
Watch for Calvin Pryor to be the quarterback of the defense for the Jets— John Clayton (@ClaytonESPN) May 9, 2014
This would be a heady responsibility for a rookie. Pryor would do things like make sure everybody is lined up correctly and adjust the defensive call based on what the offense does. That is no easy task for a youngster in a regular defense let alone one with as many exotic calls as Rex Ryan's has. Dawan Landry, the incumbent, is still on the team.
It is possible, though. Some young guys are just that smart. Rex Ryan certainly doesn't mind throwing rookies into the deep end of his pool on his defense. Kyle Wilson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Dee Milliner were all given heavy responsibilities at the start of their respective rookie campaigns. We will have to wait and see how the team decides to handle it.
