The St. Louis Rams waived RB Daryl Richardson yesterday, and today the New York Jets claimed him off waivers. Richardson started the season for the Rams last year, but after some injuries and the breakout of Zac Stacy, he was relegated to the bench.
I'm thrilled the Jets were able to get Richardson. He's better than most of the running backs in the draft this year and is just 24 years old. He has 690 career yards and a rushing average of 4.1 yards per carry. Interestingly, he's the cousin of Clyde Gates, the infamous Jets receiver.
Richardson is added to an already crowded backfield of Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell, and Mike Goodson. Goodson is almost certainly on the way out, and Richardson likely has more upside than Powell, who may also be on the way out. Yet again, we have another fascinating camp battle to watch.
