New York Jets Considered Drafting Brett Smith

Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

There is a report by Benjamin Allbright, a writer for Yahoo!, Fox Sports, and ESPN, that the New York Jets were considering drafting Brett Smith, QB from Wyoming, at the end of the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. As we saw, they opted for Tajh Boyd out of Clemson due to Rex Ryan's influence. Smith went undrafted and was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Both are interesting prospects, since they're highly mobile. Smith is mobile in the Johnny Manziel sense, and some might say he's a poor man's Manziel. I might have preferred him to Boyd, since I think he's closer to being game ready, but it's probably a wash. It's doubtful either will ever see meaningful time, but Boyd seems like he'll be a good fit in the locker room.
