Jets Select Jalen Saunders With 104th Pick in 2014 Draft

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Jets used the 104th pick in the Draft on Oklahoma wide receiver Jalen Saunders. Saunders profiles as a slot receiver. He is only 5'9" and 165 pounds so he probably could not play on the outside. He is timed in the 4.4 range and can be initially explosive and can make people miss so the slot is probably where he will have success.

He also is a good punt returner. He averaged over 15 yards per return in his final year at Oklahoma so this might be his primary role with the Jets as a rookie.

The writing might be on the wall for Jeremy Kerley here. The Jets took somebody who profiles as a replacement fairly high in the Draft as the current slot receiver is entering his contract year.

I can see some upside here, but it does feel a tad early for Saunders also. This was the Tampa Bay pick the Jets got for Darrelle Revis.
