Rumor: Jets Will Act Fast if Chris Johnson is Released

Could the Jets add a potential home run threat to their offense if he hits the open market?

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

According to Syracuse newspaper DYST Now, if Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is released, the New York Jets will be aggressive in their attempt to acquire him.

With legal trouble swirling around Mike Goodson, it would make some sense for the Jets to cut ties with the back, while simultaneously upgrading the position by signing CJ2K.

While Johnson hasn't been nearly the same player he was in his magical 2,000 yard season in 2010, he is still a significant home run threat out of the backfield and could potentially be a tremendous compliment to Chris Ivory.

The Jets' strong interest has been confirmed by CBS Sports' Jason La Confora, who too believes the Jets will attempt to strike fast if and when Johnson becomes a free agent.

In the 2013-2014 season, Johnson rushed for 1,077 yards on 279 attempts with six touchdowns as well as catching 42 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns.
