A Look At The Jets Depth Chart

We take a look at how things stand heading into the final weeks of free agency.

I saw this on ESPN today, and thought it was a good idea to focus on the depth chart right now. So a high five to Rich Cimini who is for the most part, concentrating on football this Spring, which means I'm starting to enjoy some aspects of his work again.

So first of all lets make it clear that this is not going to be the final roster we go into the season with. I still believe we'll either add some players that are cut like Jackson or Johnson, and obviously we need to add our draft class on top. However I think it's obvious to anyone who knows the roster, where our weaknesses are.

Position Offense Players
Wide Receiver Jeremy Kerley, David Nelson, Jacoby Ford, Greg Salas
Left Tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Ben Ijalana
Left Guard Brian Winters, Jacolby Ashworth, Patrick Ford
Centre Nick Mangold, Caleb Schlauderaff, Dalton Freeman
Right Guard Willie Colon, Will Campbell
Right Tackle Breno Giacomini, Oday Aboushi
Tight End Jeff Cumberland, Zach Sudfeld, Chris Pantale
Wide Receiver Eric Decker, Stephen Hill, Clyde Gates
Quarterback Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms
Fullback Tommy Bohannon
Running Back Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Mike Goodson, Alex Green

Position Defense Players
Defensive End Muhammad Wilkerson, Leger Douzable
Nose Tackle Damon Harrison, Kenrick Ellis, T.J Barnes
Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson, Tevita Finau
Outside Linebacker Quinton Coples, Antwan Barnes, Troy Davis
Inside Linebacker David Harris, Nick Bellore
Inside Linebacker Demario Davis
Outside Linebacker Calvin Pace, Jermaine Cunningham, Tim Fugger
Cornerback Dee Milliner, Johnny Patrick, Ras-I Dowling
Cornerback Darrin Walls, Kyle Wilson, Ellis Lankster
Safety Dawan Landry, Josh Bush, Rontez Miles
Safety Antonio Allen, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Brandon Hardin

Position Player
Kicker Nick Folk
Punter Ryan Quigley
Long Snapper Tanner Purdum

Looking at this, it immediately makes me thankful that we have 12 selections in the upcoming draft. We need better depth on the offensive line, we need some depth at inside linebacker. We need some talent at the WR, TE, CB and S positions. I wouldn't mind a new punter either, as well as a shiny new outside linebacker. There is some talent on this roster, there is also a lot of players who could really do something, players with some untapped potential.

Looking at our depth chart right now, what do you think? Does it change your perception on where we need to go in the draft? Personally looking at that depth chart, the main area of concern for me is the cornerback position. This defense that Rex trots out on a weekly basis relies heavily on its corners performing, and I'm really not comfortable with a combination of Milliner and Walls.
