Free Agency: New York Jets Sign Jacoby Ford

Thearon W. Henderson

The New York Jets have announced they have signed Jacoby Ford (no, this is not an April Fools Day prank). Ford is formerly of the Oakland Raiders, where he was primarily a returner and a serviceable wide returner. He boasts some serious speed, and his best season was his rookie year under current wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal.

This is a decent signing, in terms of wide receiver depth and competition. Ford is a guy that will compete with Stephen Hill and David Nelson for the bottom of the depth chart. In that sense, it's a necessary signing because it forces them to get better and bolsters the receiving corps. He likely isn't a starter, but if he takes to Lal again, it's possible. There's little downside to this signing, in my opinion. It isn't a home run signing, but another piece to the puzzle.

We'll update once we have contract information.
