Now that the combine is done and the pro days are in full flow (we'll have a comprehensive round-up this weekend), it's full on draft rumour season. News outlets, amateur bloggers and even draft experts will start putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.
However sometimes when you have a coach who just shoots from the hip, you don't really need to read into the signs, it gets spoon fed to you. That's the case with Rex Ryan and his comment relating to Sammy Watkins.
Ryan revealed he would like to add a receiver, anyone and their mothers would know that. However despite the Jets sending a strong contingent down the road to Clemson (Ryan, Idzik and Bradway attended) for their pro day, Ryan understands that he won't be an option there at #18.
He commented that there would be no chance he'll be there. Which is 100% fact, anything can happen on draft day, but if Watkins is still there at #18, I and the rest of the World would be astounded
Sammy Watkins didn't run the 40, instead he stood on his combine time (4.43) but apparently he looked good catching the football which is no surprise to anyone.
Should we sell the draft to move up into the top 10 to select him? If you are sure he is a can't miss prospect, then maybe you do. My instincts.....with the depth at the position it's wiser to wait. I would love Watkins, but I just can't get on board with trading what it will take to get into the top 10.
