With Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie visiting today, the New York Giants have signed cornerback Walter Thurmond, leaving them little-to-no cap space.
Can you say, "awkward?"
Presumably, this will force Rodgers-Cromartie back to the New York Jets. The Giants have extremely little cap space available and just alleviated their major concerns at cornerback. It is possible for them to sign Rodgers-Cromartie, however they would have to extend more years onto the contract to push the cap hit as far back as possible. This could have serious long-term effects, considering how much money Rodgers-Cromartie is looking for. He is still apparently visiting the team today, but it may just be a ploy to get a few extra dollars out of John Idzik. Who knows?
In any case, the opportunity is ripe for the picking. If the team truly wants Rodgers-Cromartie, it seems like there is little competition for his services, still the best available, with the cornerback market drying up.
