We discussed earlier today how Captain Munnerlyn might fit in to the New York Jets system, however he has just signed a three-year deal with the Minnesota VIkings, so that point is moo.
That leaves Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Cortland Finnegan, Walter Thurmond, Brandon Browner, Mike Jenkins, Champ Bailey, Jabari Greer, Tarrell Brown, Asante Samuel, Antonio Cromartie, Charles Tillman, and Brice McCain on the market. Finnegan is terrible, Thurmond is a nickel corner, Bailey is old, and Samuel is a worse tackler than Cromartie.
As a result, of those cornerbacks, Rodgers-Cromartie, Browner, and Cromartie are probably the best fits for Rex Ryan's man-heavy system. I would love to see Charles Tillman if the team wanted to go in a move zone-heavy scheme (Dee Milliner especially would do well there), but that isn't how Ryan does business. Rodgers-Cromartie is probably the best option, but will likely cost the most. Browner might be the more realistic, however he will be suspended for the first four games. I'm totally fine with Darrin Walls starting for those games, but some may disagree. Ultimately, we may see the return of Cromartie, at a much cheaper price.
What are your thoughts?
