Free Agency: Jets Inquire About Zach Strief

With Austin Howard taking visits with other teams, the Jets are not sitting at home thinking about what they could have had, they are out checking the market.

As reported earlier, Austin Howard will be visiting with the Raiders over the next 24 hours. Which means the Jets currently don't have a starting RG or RT. However one interesting name that we have inquired about according to Seth Walder is Saints tackle Zach Strief.

The saints are currently entertaining free agent safety Jarius Byrd, a man who will likely demand a contract around the $10 million per year mark. Unfortunately for them they are balancing a tight-rope when it comes to actually having any cap space to work with.

Strief is a 30 year old right tackle who has played 41 games for the Saints. A good pass protector Strief could be an important cog in any offensive line and could certainly come in and play from the get go. This is one that I really like, and would welcome someone of Strief's ability to this line.

PFF ranked Strief as the 7th best offensive tackle in the league last year. He allowed 3 sacks and 4 hits and just the 4 penalties on the season.
