Later this afternoon, we will find out if any of these rumors have any real merit, free agency is here and for a team with cap like the Jets, it's like Christmas Day.
So in an effort to wet the appetite, Tony Pauline is suggesting the Jets are showing heavy interest in soon to be FA James Jones:
I'm told wide out James Jones receiving heavy interest from the Detroit Lions & New York Jets...Green Bay Packers may still be in the mix..
James Jones, a 3rd round pick of the Packers will be going into his 8th season in the league next year coming off the back of a 817 yard 3 touchdown season for the pack. The year before he led the team with 14 total touchdown grabs.
It's no secret the Jets are severely lacking when it comes to receiving talent on this team. Jones will be turning 30 in just a couple of weeks and he didn't look quite as elusive in 2013 as he had previously. However saying that, he still had 59 receptions and that was without Aaron Rodgers for large portions of the season.
It all comes down to the price, Jones is a very reliable target. He dropped just two passes all season and had 59 receptions on 88 targets. His 369 yards after the catch were good for 22nd in the league, which isn't bad at all. He would be quite a nice addition to this team if we managed to land him.
