It would be nice to get Howard locked up before free agency starts. He will not be the only option, however. In general it is preferable to keep your own quality players who will not have to adjust to a new team, a new city, and a new system. There are a number of adequate replacements available should Howard's demands be too rich for the Jets' blood.
My first choice would be to see Howard back, but the Jets do need to stick to their budget. If Howard is asking for too much money, and another team is willing to give it, Gang Green should look to Plan B.
