Austin Howard is set to become a free agent. The Jets are apparently looking to get him a new contract before he hits the market.
Jets begin contract talks with right tackle Austin Howard. #NYJ hopes to lock him up before free agency http://t.co/3gLjIAbhYe

Howard has developed into a quality starter these past two years. I can say I was wrong for doubting he would ever be capable. He shouldn't command a ton of money either.
The Jets have a ton of free agents, but Howard is the only one I would be genuinely disappointed to lose. There are some I could go either way on, but those guys would be easy enough to replace. If the Jets can lock up their top free agent before the frenzy begins, it will allow them to go on the offensive in March. That would be a good thing.
