Adam Schefter and Manish Mehta both report the Jets have reached out to former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Though Jim Harbaugh is expected to land at Michigan, NFL teams such as Bears, Jets, Raiders continue making overtures to change his mind.

Jets have indeed reached out to Jim Harbaugh to gauge his interest in the HC job, per source (as @AdamSchefter said) #nyj

Florio reported last night that Harbaugh is no longer under contract with the 49ers, meaning an NFL team that hired him would not owe San Francisco any compensation.
This is probably a sign that it is a done deal Harbaugh is going back to college to coach at the University of Michigan. Otherwise it would make sense for the Niners to hold onto him and get something in return.
It doesn't hurt to ask, though. The Jets certainly should leave no stone unturned, and Harbaugh is the best coach available.
