Superbowl winning coach Jon Gruden has committed his future to ESPN, signing a contract that will keep him with the network until 2021.
I didn't see too many people calling for Gruden to be hired, but he does have a Superbowl to his name which makes him an interesting candidate, even if he has been out of pro football coaching since 2008. For all the talent he supposedly had, he left football with a rather average record of 95-81 with a 5-4 record in the post-season.
Renowened as being a Quarterbacks coach, working with Rich Gannon in Oakland. However many believe the Superbowl victory could be largely attributed to the defense that Tony Dungy had built before being fired by Tamp Bay. Gruden led his team to 5 first place finishes in an 11 year head coaching career.
I'm not sure if anyone really wanted Gruden to be the next head coach of the New York Jets, I certainly didn't! However it's worth noting he is a name that can be removed from the head coaching serch when it eventually gets going (if it hasn't already.
