Jets @ Titans: Five Bold Predictions

Youth is hot and bold; age is weak and cold. - William Shakespeare

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Disclaimer:  A Bold Prediction is not something that is likely or probable to happen. Bold Predictions are guesses that are beyond what anyone can reasonably expect to happen, but not so far as to be physically impossible. Saying that Geno Smith is going to throw for 162 yards and one touchdown is not a bold prediction.  Well, maybe that's a bad example.  Let's try that again.  Saying that Chris Ivory will run for 423 yards and eight touchdowns is not a Bold Prediction, nor is saying that Jeff Cumberland will not catch a pass. By definition, Bold Predictions are unlikely, but not impossible, to occur.  Since this is a Jets site, they are also pro-Jets predictions. As always, the Final Score prediction is meant to be realistic, not a Bold Prediction.

Let's take a quick look at last week's Bold Predictions results before moving on to Sunday's game.  I predicted Sheldon Richardson would have the first multi-sack day of his career.  Nailed it.  Richardson got three sacks against the Vikings.  I got everything else wrong.    My record now stands at six correct predictions out of 65 on the year.  They may have to start calling me Smacky the Greek.   My bonus prediction was Jeff Cumberland would put up 20+ receiving yards for only the second time since opening day.  Nope.  Not only did he get shut out again, he dropped a pass in the end zone.  Cumberland is quickly playing himself off the 2015 Jets roster.  That makes me five for 13 on bonus predictions.  I brought my record to 6-7 in predicting the winner of the game, having correctly predicted a Jets loss to the Vikings.

Let's see what I can get wrong this week.

Here are my five Bold Predictions for Sunday's game:

1.  Chris Johnson will get his revenge against his former employer, racking up 100+ yards on the ground.

2.  Geno Smith will not turn the ball over and will pass for a 90+ QB rating for only the 5th time in his career.

3.  Eric Decker will have his first 100 yard receiving game for the Jets.

4.  The Jets will have multiple turnovers on defense for only the third time this year and only the eighth time since Thanksgiving 2012.

5.  Sheldon Richardson will follow up the first multi-sack game of his career with his second multi-sack game.  It's a Hogg Sackattack.

And a bonus prediction:  Calvin Pryor will do something, anything, to make you think he isn't completely lost out there.  Maybe it will involve separating Delanie Walker from the ball at a crucial juncture.

Final Score:  This is a tough one.  If the Jets could ever get their act together in the red zone I would be fairly confident in predicting a Jets victory against one of the very few NFL teams the Jets are probably better than.  As it is, field goals just don't get the job done.  Nonetheless, I'll go out on a limb and predict a rare Jets road win here.  I'll probably regret this pick, but Jets 23, Titans 20.
