I feel some more pain coming in the form of a prime time embarrassment. Granted, I'm wrong more often than I am right, but I have a feeling things are going to get worse before they get better. The head coach is a canned man walking and he has seemingly checked out. Neither QB the team has started can consistently lead the Jets to victory. The Jets have a top rushing offense in a passing league. The donut shop down the street appears to be closed. Everything is horrible.

Here's a goat playing with some puppies.

Rankings

Jets: On offense the Jets are 30th in points scored, 29th in overall yards on average, 32nd in passing yards and 4th in rushing yards. The Jets are an excellent running offense, but their scoring and passing is so incredibly poor, at the bottom of the league, that it really makes no difference how good the running game is.

On defense the Jets are 28th in points allowed, 7th in overall yards allowed, 12th in passing defense, and 3rd in rushing defense. The Jets are an above-average defensive unit in every measure except points allowed believe it or not, but where they are bad they are really bad. Rex Ryan needs to move on and has many faults as a head coach, but he coached these guys up. 12th overall pass defense is impressive with the roster he was handed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Patriots: On offense the Dolphins are 9th in points scored, 17th in overall yards, 22nd in passing yards; and 9th in rushing yards. The Dolphins aren't exactly a potent offense but they have managed to be an effective if somewhat mediocre blend of run and pass.

On defense the Dolphins 6th in points allowed, 5th in overall yards allowed, 4th against the pass, and 10th against the run. This matchup does not bode well for the Jets offense, no matter whether Geno Smith or Michael Vick is leading the charge.

AP Pro Ranking has the Jets at 30th overall, and the Dolphins are ranked 15th.

Attacking the Patriots

Yeah, good luck with that. Maybe Eric Decker or Percy Harvin will make a few impact plays. Jeremy Kerley could wake up from his hibernation, you never know.

I randomly and without authority declare today to be Nick Mangold day. You celebrate this holiday by leaving loved ones a giant turkey leg smothered in gravy in stockings at the foot of their bed and telling them a lumberjack visited them while they slumbered.

Patriots to Watch

I hear Flipper is a pretty cool dude.

Lamar Miller, Jarvis Landry, Mike Wallace, and Charles Clay have quietly built up a decent if somewhat erratic offense behind Ryan Tannehill. Landry is also a special teams threat on returns. Cameron Wake is an absolute beast with 8.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. Brent Grimes has a whopping 5 interceptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Bottom Line

Winning would mean the Jets pick lower in the NFL draft and makes them that much more likely to retain John Idzik as the general manager. While this does not fit the agenda of many Jets fans, I'll never be able to root against my team. Expect the worst, hope for the best. The best in this case being playing spoiler to the damned Miami freaking Dolphins.
