Michael Vick has been named the starting quarterback for the Jets in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rex Ryan announced Michael Vick will start Sunday in KC.

There were no good options. This is probably just the least bad option.
At this point we might as well see what Vick can do with a week to prepare with the first team. He at least showed a little bit of spark in the second quarter of yesterday's loss to Buffalo. His level of play will be able to tell the Jets for sure whether he should be part of the 2015 mix at quarterback as a veteran stopgap/backup.
I would guess Vick will get a few weeks to show what he can do. The Jets will evaluate at some point and possibly turn to Matt Simms the last few weeks of the season if Vick struggles.
