The Jets needed to clear a roster spot for Percy Harvin. It appears Harvin's college teammate, David Nelson will be the one to go.

Nelson did a solid job last season as an in season scrap heap signing. That pretty much is what he is. He's more productive than the typical player you can sign from off the street, but he isn't productive enough to count on for a big role. It's also tough to keep him as a depth guy because he doesn't contribute on special teams.
While this is probably the right move, it is also a bit sad because Nelson is by all accounts a great guy on and off the field. Hopefully he can find a job somewhere in the NFC and improve enough to have a productive career elsewhere.
