Disclaimer: A Bold Prediction is not something that is likely or probable to happen. Bold Predictions are guesses that are beyond what anyone can reasonably expect to happen, but not so far as to be physically impossible. Saying that Geno Smith is going to throw for 162 yards and one touchdown is not a bold prediction, nor is saying that Chris Johnson will run for 423 yards and eight touchdowns. By definition, Bold Predictions are unlikely, but possible, to occur. Since this is a Jets site, they are also pro-Jets predictions. As always, the Final Score prediction is meant to be realistic, not a Bold Prediction.
Let's take a quick look at last week's Bold Predictions results before moving on to Sunday's game. I predicted that Jace Amaro would have 100+ receiving yards and a TD. Kinda close, as he got 68 yards and a TD, but not close enough. I really wasn't close on any of my other predictions. That brings me to three correct predictions out of 30 so far. I should really look into a job as a psychic or something. My bonus prediction last week was that Michael Vick would make a big play of some kind. Nope. That makes me four for six this year in bonus predictions. Not bad. I brought my record to 3-3 in predicting the winner of the game, having predicted a huge upset win over the Broncos. First and ten on the 33 yard line with six minutes to go, down a touchdown. Could we not go three and out there? Sigh...
Let's see what I can get right this week.
Here are my five Bold Predictions for Sunday's game:
1. Chris Ivory will shred the Patriots run defense to the tune of 120 yards and 2 TDs.
2. Eric Decker will find Revis Island very hospitable indeed, with 90+ receiving yards and a TD.
3. Muhammad Wilkerson will terrorize the Brady Bunch with 2+ sacks, one of which will be a strip sack (not to be confused with a strip search or a strip club).
4. Sheldon Richardson will score a TD.
5. Geno Smith will have more passing yards than Tom Brady.
And a bonus prediction: Walt Powell will break a big punt return of 30+ yards.
Final Score: This game, in Foxboro, with the Jets reeling, on a short week should end in a Patriots victory. But I'm going with my hunch that the Patsies this year are a paper tiger built on feasting against the NFL's weak sisters (12-19 opponents record). This is my last "homer within" prediction of 2014. If the Jets don't pull this off expect a string of loss predictions in the coming weeks as the Jets completely unravel. But for today, I'm going with the upset. Jets 27, Patriots 24, Tommy Boy sulking on the sideline helplessly watching Ivory grind out the last minutes of the game. Take that Brady Bunch!
