Jets Fear Dee Milliner Has Torn Achilles

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Dee Milliner suffered a non-contact injury in today's game. While the final diagnosis will have to wait, the Jets do not sound optimistic.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported after the game that the team believes Milliner tore his Achilles but will have tests on Monday, according to a source informed of the situation. The injury would end his season. After the game, coach Rex Ryan only confirmed it was an Achilles injury.

If true, this would end a nightmare second season for Milliner. He missed most of preseason with an injury. He was torched in his season debut in Green Bay. After playing well last week in San Diego, he suffered this injury early in his third game of 2014.

It seems like a bit of a freak thing, but it will certainly ignite questions about what Milliner's extensive injury-history means going forward in terms of whether the Jets can rely on him.

I just hope the injury to Milliner is not used as an excuse for the poor job John Idzik did planning at the position. While perhaps an injury like this was unpredictable, the players Idzik put at the position did not stand much of a chance of forming a quality group.
