Greg Salas: 2013 and Beyond

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Greg Salas was a 2011 fourth round pick by the St. Louis Rams. The Jets are already his fourth NFL team after brief stints with the Patriots and Eagles. The Jets signed him off Philadelphia's practice squad in October.

Salas' contributions were minimal. He only caught 8 passes in 2013. He had a nifty 44 yard run on a screen against the Saints and made a nice leaping play for a 30 yarder at Baltimore. Aside from those, he was fairly quiet. Where does he go from here?

Salas has adequate size. Mainly he profiles as a guy with pretty good leaping ability and ability to make people miss and break tackles in the open field. Can he hone them enough to have a productive NFL career? He has a long way to go. He does have a bit of experience as a punt returner, which might fit with his skillset.

He is only scheduled to make $645,000 in 2014. I'm fine with him coming to camp. Let's see how much the 25 year old can improve. Perhaps he could be part of the mix in the return game.
