The New York Jets Tried To Interview Jim Haslett

Rafael Suanes-US PRESSWIRE

There's a report out from a few of the beat reporters that the New York Jets wanted to interview Washington Redskins' defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. Haslett has not had the best of track records, so it probably wouldn't be the best thing in the world if he were to come to here, but I'm just going to assume Rex Ryan knows defensive coaches better than I do. In any case, the request was denied, so he will not interview with the team.

However, this does tell us the team is looking at a fresh perspective, someone who isn't a Ryan puppet. They're clearly looking outside the team for new voices and a breath of fresh air. We don't know what they wanted to interview Haslett for; maybe just as a linebackers coach. In any case, it's good to hear they're expanding their search.

As a side note, there's a report from Jake Steinberg that the team is waiting to interview Kris Richards, the defensive backs coach for the Seattle Seahawks. They will have to wait until the Seahawks are either eliminated from the playoffs or win the Super Bowl. Again, it's a good thing they're looking to other teams for inspiration and a fresh voice.
