[Edit by John B, 01/15/14 2:35 PM EST ] Apparently a report is out that the Redskins have hired Kotwica. Meh. No great loss.

According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Redskins are hiring Ben Kotwica as their new special teams coach.

Manish Mehta reports special teams coach Ben Kotwica interviewed with the Washington Redskins yesterday.

Kotwica is one of at least a half dozen Jets’ assistants who are not under contract for the 2014 season. A league source told the News that the Jets have offered Kotwica a contract.

It's newsworthy that the Jets want him back.

I'm kind of agnostic on this one. I was largely underwhelmed by Jets special teams this year. I also felt Kotwica made some odd strategic choices at times. I'm just not sure how much of a difference it will really make. I think there are a handful of special teams coaches who make a big difference. Mike Westhoff was one of them. The others are just kind of there. Kotwica might become an excellent coach at some point, but I don't think he is there yet.

How this plays out bears watching in the coming days and weeks.
