Will Lovie Smith cost the Jets a draft pick?

We all thought it was a given that the Jets would have an extra 3rd rounder this year due to the Darrelle Revis trade. I had even forgotten that the Bucs would only send the Jets the pick on a condition that Revis be on the Bucs Roster on the third day of the new league year. If Revis isn't on the roster, the pick will become a 4th rounder.

And why wouldn't it be a given?

Despite the Buccaneers inexplicably playing zone coverage, Revis regained his spot atop Pro Football Focus' cornerback rankings. This was due to the fact that Greg Schiano realized his mistake and made the obvious decision to play more man coverage.

However, Schiano is no longer the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That title now belongs to Lovie Smith who will bring the Tampa 2 back down to the bay.

Cornerbacks who thrive in zone coverage have long played great in Smith's system. Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman are just a couple of names who have played well under his tutelage.

Revis is due to make a fully unguaranteed 16 million dollars next season. The Bucs can cut him and not feel any financial repercussions for this year and all the years to come.

While we all can agree that cutting or trading Revis would be an absurd move to make considering that they also gave us the Sheldon Richardson pick, the Buccaneers hired Lovie Smith before even hiring a GM. Lovie will have the power and why should he change his philosophies due to a move that former Bucs GM Mark Dominik made?

The Bucs have a lot to think about. For the Jets sake, and for the sake of my dreams of landing a guy like LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr, let's hope Revis will be wearing Pewter in 2014.
