New York Jets Fantasies: Week 3 Start/Sit

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The 1-1 New York Jets welcome the 1-1 Buffalo Bills to Met Life Stadium on Sunday at 4:25 pm. This will be the first meeting of the year between the divisional rivals. Let's take a look at key fantasy players on both teams.

New York Jets

Start: RB Chris Ivory, RB Bilal Powell, WR Jeremy Kerley/Santonio Holmes, Jets D/ST

Sit: WR Stephen Hill, QB Geno Smith, TE Jeff Cumberland/Kellen Winslow

Last week saw the emergence of RB Chris Ivory. Ivory carried the ball 12 times for 52 yds., that's 4.3 ypc. He seemed like he was running for 4 or 5 yards before a Patriot even touched him. For some reason OC Marty Mornhinweg went away from the run in a close game. Look for Marty to go back to the running game this week against a Buffalo D that is ranked 30th against the run, allowing 141.5 yds. per game. If you have Ivory or Powell this is the week to start them especially with so many star running backs showing up on the injury report. WR Jeremy Kerley returns to the field this week after missing last week with a concussion. Kerley was sorely missed and should return to bailing out Geno on 3rd downs. The Jets D sees the return of DE Quinton Coples who missed the first two games with a fractured ankle. Coples will see limited action but will help set the edge against the speedy CJ Spiller. I expect Ryan to confuse and befuddle rookie QB EJ Manuel and will force a few turnovers.

Buffalo Bills

Start: RB CJ Spiller/Fred Jackson, WR Robert Woods/Stevie Johnson, Buffalo D/ST

Sit: QB EJ Manuel, WR TJ Graham, TE Scott Chandler

33, 25, these numbers represent the amount of carries Spiller and Jackson have. Once again this backfield is a full fledged timeshare. It's frustrating for most because you probably drafted Spiller as a RB1. He has yet to score a TD but still racked up over a hundred yards last week(thanks in part to a 46 yard carry in the 4th QT). You still have to start Spiller this week, even though the Jets are ranked 3rd against the run, and will be the main focal point of the Jets D. Given his explosive ability he can bust off a long run on any given play. RB Fred Jackson also gets the nod because it's clear he is getting the GL work. He notched a 4 yd. TD run last week, and may get another chance this week. WR Stevie Johnson always seems to give the Jets secondary problems. Remember he was the one receiver who always gave Revis a tough time. CB Antonio Cromartie will be matched up against him but Johnson has been sneaking into the slot lately and may be matched up against Wilson or Walls. He also seems to have good chemistry with rookie QB EJ Manuel. Buffalo's D is ranked 2nd in the NFL in sacks with 9, DC Mike Pettine has clearly brought the pass rush with him to Buffalo. I expect the Bill's D to rattle QB Geno Smith and force a few turnovers this week.
