Earlier today the Jets and Greg McElroy reached an injury settlement leading to his release, permitting the quarterback to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. McElroy had been waived by the Jets on Saturday but after clearing waivers stayed with the organization.
After leading the Jets to a comeback victory last season over the Arizona Cardinals, McElroy appeared to be the guaranteed third string quarterback coming into training camp. However after sustaining an ankle injury and with the impressive play of Matt Simms in the preseason, McElroy became expendable.
McElroy may best be known by Jets fans for publicly calling his fellow teammates selfish during an interview on an Alabama radio station prior to the 2012 season, as well as being rumored to be a certain beat writer's inside source.
