Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith has left tonight's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions with an injury. Smith appeared to turn his ankle on a scramble in the third quarter looking to evade a sack.

Smith was 6 for 7 for 47 yards at the time he left the game. He came into the game in the second quarter for Mark Sanchez, who started the game. Sanchez was 10 for 13 for 125 yards with a touchdown but also threw an interception returned for a touchdown by a defensive lineman and should have had a second interception on a screen on his next drive.

We await word on the specific injury he suffered and the severity. For whatever it is worth, Geno did not need help. He was limping but was able to get off the field under his own power.

Depending on the severity of the injury, this obviously could change the complexion of the competition to start at quarterback between Smith and Sanchez.
