Take this for what it's worth:
From Total Access: I'm told if OC Marty Mornhinweg has a vote in the QB competition, his vote is for Geno Smith… even if Sanchez is healthy
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 30, 2013
It seems that it's becoming more and more inevitable that Smith will start the season off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Off a short week, it's also unlikely that Mark Sanchez will be healthy enough to play against the New England Patriots.
And you know what? That's a good thing. We've seen enough of Sanchez to know what he is... a mediocre quarterback that needs a great team around him to succeed. He's turnover prone and still makes the same mistakes he made his rookie year. Even if you don't believe Smith is ready, the team needs to see what he can do. If a rookie and a fifth-year veteran are tied, I'll go with the rookie's upside every single day, especially in a rebuilding year.
