Santonio Holmes Still Is Not Running

Andy Lyons

Santonio Holmes is still unable to run. Quotes below via Brian Costello.

“Right now, I can’t run,” Holmes said. “I continue to take it day by day and do the necessary things to get better.”

As always, keep in mind that I am no doctor, but Holmes not being running as we come up on three weeks until Opening Day seems to paint a bleak picture about his availability for the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is difficult to imagine him being in proper football shape if he cannot run. Time is running out.

One option the Jets have is to start the season with Holmes on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He would not be able to see action during the first six weeks of the regular season if he starts there, but at this rate, it might not matter.

The reported improvements of Clyde Gates and Stephen Hill in camp will be put to the test if Holmes cannot go.
