New York Jets Injury Report

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets are back at practice today for the first time since their preseason loss to the Lions. Here are updates on the walking wounded.

Geno Smith

What's he supposed to do? A starting job is on the line. The decision is likely to be made after the next preseason game. We are in the home stretch. Sitting out probably throws the job to Mark Sanchez. At any rate, the guy playing hurt to try and win the starting job sure doesn't mess with the diva narrative certain writers tried to push after the Draft.

Joe McKnight

Though McKnight's camp has been a colossal disappointment to date, the poor showing by the running backs still leaves him a chance to carve out a big role on offense if he can produce going forward. His chances to make the team might have actually improved as a result of his injury giving others a shot to show what they could do.

Chris Ivory

With Ivory it is all about getting him ready for Week 1. I wouldn't even have him see a snap in preseason and risk injuring something. Prepare in a controlled environment in practice.

Santonio Holmes

I guess that's a good sign, but indications seem to be that he will start the year on the PUP list, which would knock him out of the first six games. Josh Mauga

Given how rough of a game Demario Davis had, one cannot help but wonder whether Mauga has a chance to push for playing time if he can get himself on the field.
