The Jets are back at practice today for the first time since their preseason loss to the Lions. Here are updates on the walking wounded.
Geno Smith
The Jets QB competition lives! Geno Smith in pads and ready to roll, as they say. #nyj

Geno Smith looks a bit off on his drop backs as he plants and pushes off his gimpy right ankle (heavily taped). Still throwing nice ball

Geno Smith working with starters in team drills. Noticeably gimpy on drop backs. He does not look ready. #nyj

I love Geno Smith's desire to play and although he doesn't look horrible today, he should have taken the day off and rested his ankle #nyj

What's he supposed to do? A starting job is on the line. The decision is likely to be made after the next preseason game. We are in the home stretch. Sitting out probably throws the job to Mark Sanchez. At any rate, the guy playing hurt to try and win the starting job sure doesn't mess with the diva narrative certain writers tried to push after the Draft.
Joe McKnight
Joe McKnight looks like he's practicing #nyj

Joe McKnight warming up/stretching with the rest of the team. Good sign. #jets

McKnight and Hilliard have red no contact jerseys on #NYJ

Though McKnight's camp has been a colossal disappointment to date, the poor showing by the running backs still leaves him a chance to carve out a big role on offense if he can produce going forward. His chances to make the team might have actually improved as a result of his injury giving others a shot to show what they could do.
Chris Ivory
Ivory stretching out in the rehab area w trainer #jets

Chris Ivory, who took part in individual drills, is not participating in team drills. Hamstring not fully ready yet. #nyj
— Manish Mehta (@MMehtaNYDN) August 11, 2013
With Ivory it is all about getting him ready for Week 1. I wouldn't even have him see a snap in preseason and risk injuring something. Prepare in a controlled environment in practice.
Santonio Holmes
Holmes has a helmet on and is catching passes from the juggs machine #NYJ

I guess that's a good sign, but indications seem to be that he will start the year on the PUP list, which would knock him out of the first six games. Josh Mauga
Josh Mauga still not in pads. Dealing with a back injury #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 11, 2013
Given how rough of a game Demario Davis had, one cannot help but wonder whether Mauga has a chance to push for playing time if he can get himself on the field.
