Nick Folk Off to a Good Start?

Brian Costello says Nick Folk is ahead of the kicking competition at this early stage.

Contrary to what many believe, I am not sure Folk is necessarily a lock to win this competition. It is only an educated guess, but I think Cundiff is a legitimate competitor, not just injury insurance. Why do I say this? He set an NFL record for touchbacks two years ago. Neither kicker is particularly accurate, but Cundiff has a reputation for having a strong kickoff leg. Folk is notoriously one of the weakest kickoff guys in the league. Making field goals is more important than kickoff distance. Field goals put points on the board. Kickoffs decide field position. If neither kicker is accurate, however, the Jets might at least improve their kickoffs.

Folk might need to outkick Cundiff.
