New York Jets: Chris Ivory on the Shelf; Mike Goodson Not at Camp

Chris Graythen

The Jets' two big running back additions did not practice today.

Chris Ivory is battling a hamstring ailment.

"It’s limitation, just precaution. I don’t want to come back and make things worse,’’ said Ivory, who sounded like he’d rather go through a root canal or an IRS audit than discuss another injury.

Asked when he’d practice he said: “Probably not tomorrow. We’re going to see how it feels tonight and come back tomorrow, see how it feels and after that I should be OK probably by Sunday. Or tomorrow.’

It does not sound like much to get worried about. Considering Ivory's injury history and the pounding at the position, it probably would make sense for the Jets to keep his camp workload light and hold him out of preseason games. Save his bullets for the regular season.

In other news, Mike Goodson has not reported for camp yet.

Again, you know what? I know where he is and all that stuff and I guess that’s all I’m going to leave it at,” said Ryan Friday toward the end of his press conference following the first day of practice in Cortland. Ten minutes earlier, Ryan had said, “I said what I said about Mike, and I’m just going to leave it at that. I don’t really want to get into the specifics and what I know and all that kind of stuff.”

When Goodson did not report on Friday, Ryan issued a statement via the team that read, “We knew Mike was not going to report and we understand why he’s not here.”

No word on whether this has anything to do with Goodson's legal situation. These are pretty cryptic comments. I'm not sure why the Jets are being so evasive. There is probably a good reason, but is impossible to say how meaningful Goodson's absence is without knowing more.
